Dancing With the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd is expecting her second child with her husband and fellow DWTS pro, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The 36-year-old shared the exciting news on her Instagram, posting a photo of her rainbow baby bump – which is still growing. Pretty soon, her family will grow by one.
Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy started dating in 2012 and had an off-and-on relationship for several years. Maksim finally proposed onstage on December 5, 2015, and the couple got married two years later on July 8, 2017, at the Oheka Castle in Long Island, New York. They’ve been happily married ever since.
Their first child – a son named Shai – was born on January 4, 2017, just a few months before the couple tied the knot. Shai will soon be a big brother to a little sister OR brother – you can start making your guesses now. The incoming baby will be considered a rainbow baby, which Peta opened up about.
“After 2 years of constant struggle and heartache, 3 miscarriages, and a failed embryo transfer…we have a healthy bun in the oven :)) It was a shock to all of us and we found out right before I was going in for my second round of IVF,” wrote Peta Murgatroyd in her Instagram post – adding the due date is June 2023.
Earlier this year, Peta opened up about her first miscarriage, which happened in 2020 while she was in a Whole Foods bathroom. She then had two more miscarriages, which brought on feelings of ‘embarrassment’ and ‘shame.’ Despite the couple’s constant losses, they remained hopeful that a baby No. 2 would come.
In June, she shared with her followers that she retrieved 40 eggs out of 27 follicles – which she explained was a lot, according to her nurse. She asked her followers to keep their fingers crossed. As she prepared for her second round of IVF, the couple learned the exciting news – and also learned patience is a virtue.
“I want to thank ALL OF YOU who’ve been on this fertility journey with me from the beginning. It feels like I’m sharing this news with my extended family. Thank you for sharing your stories and tips to get me through my IVF cycle and thank you for the plethora of encouraging comments and DM’s I read them all.”
Peta Murgatroyd Recently Celebrated Son’s 6th Birthday
On January 4th, Peta Murgatroyd celebrated her son’s 6th birthday – just a week before announcing she was pregnant with his younger sibling. The former Burn the Floor performer shared a touching and adorable message about her son, Shai, who she describes as her ‘favorite sweet smart funny boy.’
“Slightly teared up this morning thinking about how the early years are over. I made Shai promise though that he won’t get any bigger than 6….I said I will still throw you birthday parties each year but you have to stay this way forever. He said ‘Ok Mummy’ ????” she said, adding she cherishes these precious moments.
Peta Murgatroyd last appeared on Dancing With the Stars on September 19, 2022 – when she was eliminated from Season 31. It was her 14th season as a pro on the show, but her worst since her debut season in 2013. She has won twice – with Donald Driver in Season 14 and Nyle DiMarco in Season 22.
