Former presidential daughter Jenna Bush Hager and husband Henry Hager just welcomed their third child, a baby boy named Henry Harold “Hal” Hager. Little Hal, born on August 2, 2019, joins older sisters Mila and Poppy to make the Hagers a happy family of five.
Jenna, a host on Today, announced that she was pregnant with a baby boy on the show in April, when she was already five months along. Her family, friends, and coworkers were all thrilled, and Jenna’s family was especially excited to welcome a baby boy. He is the first grandson in the Bush family.

The last few months of her pregnancy were a whirlwind for Jenna. She was busy with Poppy and Mila and her work on the Today show. Jenna welcomed her baby boy on the same day she left for her maternity leave!
Now that Jenna and Hal are home, the Bush and Hager families have shared some adorable pictures of their baby boy.
On April 22, 2019, Jenna Bush Hager announced that she and husband Henry Hager were expecting their third child. They were thrilled to be expanding their family again and excited to be expecting their first son.
Their whole family was excited with the addition of a new baby boy. Jenna and Henry’s daughters, Mila and Poppy, were thrilled to get a baby brother. Jenna’s father, George W. Bush, was especially excited. He’d finally get “a little fishing buddy.”
On August 2, 2019, Jenna and Henry welcomed their newborn boy. They gave him a meaningful name: Henry Harold “Hal” Hager.
“He is named Henry after many on his father’s side including his dear dad and his paternal grandfather,” Jenna explained to People. “Harold comes from my maternal grandfather, Pa, who I loved dearly and was unable to keep a son long enough to name.”
Jenna took to Instagram on August 5 to announce baby Hal’s arrival. She captioned her post: “Welcome to the world my darling Henry Harold ‘Hal’ Hager! Hal came into the world Friday, August 2, 2019 at 9:02am and our life has never been sweeter.”
Jenna shared several photos of her baby Hal on Instagram. Just like any new mom, she couldn’t get enough of his sweet snuggles. Both parents were clearly smitten with their baby boy.
Big sisters Mila and Poppy couldn’t wait to see their new baby brother. Jenna wrote in a post: “And our world made even sweeter when our girls met their baby brother.”
Mila and Poppy even came up with their own nickname for baby Hal.
“We weren’t exactly sure about the name, but then his big sisters arrived and they called him Hal Pal,” Jenna explained to People. “So we thought, ‘This is just perfect!’”
As you might expect, Jenna’s parents — George W. Bush and Laura Bush — were “over the moon” when they welcomed their first grandson. Jenna told People: “My dad was a little mad that the name wasn’t George but [was] just kidding. He said [Henry] was a cool name.”
Grandad George shared a family photo on his own Instagram account, with the caption: “@laurawbush and I are thrilled to welcome Henry Harold Hager to our family. We are happy for the proud parents, @jennabhager and Henry. And pleased that Mila and Poppy have a little brother to love. We thank God that mom and baby are healthy, and we look forward to many years of loving the boy known as Hal.”
Jenna’s parents have only ever had girls: their twin daughters Jenna and Barbara, and then Jenna’s two daughters Mila and Poppy. Little Hal is the first grandson in the Bush family.
Grandma Laura Bush shared similar photos on her Instagram account. She captioned the images: “We are overjoyed by the birth of our darling grandson. Welcome to our family, Henry Harold ‘Hal’ Hager!”
Jenna delivered her baby boy via C-section, and she needed some recovery time before she made the announcement to the world. Her Today work family was overjoyed and sent their congratulations. When she felt better, Jenna called into the show to tell her cohosts that she was feeling “good.”
On the August 5 phone call, Jenna told her cohosts, “I think when you’re held up in a hospital room with a newborn and you see the light in his eyes, you think, ‘This is what life’s for — to make the world better for our little babes.’”
“And even though the news outside these walls isn’t so great,” she continued, “seeing the joy in their eyes, that’s what we’re here to do — make their lives safe. And he’s a beautiful, funny little man.”
