Pink Releases New Song ‘When I Get There’ About Her Late Father, James Moore, Who She Calls Her First Valentine

Pink has always had a way with words and the voice to bring those words to life – something she put to good use in a new song titled ‘When I Get There.’ She shared a snippet of the new, emotional ballad on her Instagram page and released the full song (along with a lyric video) on YouTube on February 13th.

The song is a tribute to her late father, James Moore, who she describes as her first Valentine – hence why she released it a day before Valentine’s Day. Pink lost her father in August 2021 and has been open about her love for him, which she perfectly describes in her newest song. We can all relate to the lyrics.

“Sometimes love leaves us too soon. On Valentine’s Day- I cherish the love I have that I can touch- and the love I have in my heart for those who have gone on to the next adventure. This one’s for you, Daddy Sir,” she wrote in her Instagram caption – adding the hashtags #trustfall and #hewasmyfirstvalentine.

The lyric video begins with an old (but recent) video of Pink’s father surprising her as she gets ready in front of a mirror. “Has anybody seen Alecia?” he asks as he walks up the steps to what appears to be a trailer – he doesn’t call her by her stage name, Pink, but instead calls her by her real name, Alecia.

A surprised Pink rises up from the floor and rushes over to give her father a big hug – he’s holding a bouquet of flowers for her. The video quickly cuts to a video/photo montage of Alecia when she was younger as her father, in a voice over, explains why he felt the need to videotape her younger moments.

(WARNING: The video below contains vulgar language)

“I thought it would be nice if you had some memories of how it all began and where you all came from, and some of the memories through the years. It’ll always be so important to all of us,” he says. “There’s Alecia. It was her first birthday,” he concludes – the video shows the family celebrating her first birthday.

She sings about one day reuniting with her father in heaven, where she hopes he’s enjoying himself. She asks if he has a ‘bar up there’ with his ‘favorite chair’ where he sits with friends and talk about the weather – or a place where he watches the sunset. “I know you’ll tell me when I get there,” she sings beautifully.

Pink Pays Tribute to Her Father on One-Year Anniversary of Death

Alecia Moore, best known as Pink, has never been shy about her love for her father – who she credits for always being there for her and always being her No. 1 supporter. Her parents divorced after experiencing marital problems before she turned 10 years old, and while he could’ve left, he stayed by her side.

On August 27, 2022, she shared a touching tribute on Instagram dedicated to her father on the one-year anniversary of his death. She quoted one of her favorite shows, Peaky Blinders, “To family – sometimes the shelter from the storm. Sometimes the storm itself.” She wrote about some of her favorite memories.

“Like when I was two and three and would sneak into your room during a thunderstorm and stand inches from your face. Waiting for you to wake up and see me. Waiting for you to lift up the covers and let me in. Keep me safe. Waiting for a song that could drift us both back to sleep,” she recounted in the caption.

Now, Pink is a mother herself and has two kids at home – a 12-year-old daughter named Willow Sage and a 6-year-old son named Jameson Moon. She not only sings to them, but she will always lift the covers when they need somewhere to hide. “Thanks for giving me that so I had it to give,” she writes.
