This Adorable New Prince George Royal Portrait Portrays Him as the Heir to the Crown That He Is

Our favorite cute royal Prince George isn’t messing around in 2020. The monarch-to-be was pictured in a new portrait released from Kensington Palace with some other familiar faces to mark the start of a new decade.

The photo has been making the rounds ever since it was originally shared on the Kensington Royal Instagram. In the few days since posting, it’s already received over a million likes. What makes the photo so special? It pictures four generations of royalty. You don’t see that every day!

The portrait contains four generations of the royals all have or will wear the Crown.

Look at all that power! The portrait shows Queen Elizabeth standing next to her son, Charles, Prince of Wales; her grandson, William, Duke of Cambridge; and her great-grandson, Prince George.

The cute photo was captioned, “Happy New Year! A new portrait of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince George has been released to mark the start of a new decade. Wishing all of our followers a happy and healthy 2020!”

The photo is significant for a number of reasons, but mostly Prince George’s smirk.

It seems like the reality of the situation, that he’d have to wait his turn, has hit George. Prince George is third in line to the Crown after Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and then his father, William. That delightful smirk is probably our favorite part of the photo.

One very observant commenter posted, “I guess Prince George is old enough to start wearing pants now! Great photo!”

America, the pants are significant!

It’s trouser time for Prince George.

The newly released photo shows Prince George wearing long pants instead of shorts with long socks. This is a royal tradition and a practice of the aristocracy in the UK.

“It is considered very suburban for a little boy to be in long trousers when he is just a little boy,” Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward told People in 2014.

It’s not the first time the Prince has rocked trousers, but it’s symbolic.

One of the first times we got to see Prince George in long pants was on last year’s Christmas card. This year, George being pictured with the Queen as he wears trousers is a pretty big deal!

It’s almost like the royal family has big plans for him!

Jokes aside, it was nice to see a cute picture of Prince George with the Queen to start off the new decade.

We were glad to get the message of happiness for the new year and the new decade. Let’s hope it’s as cheery as the photo from Kensington Palace!
