After weeks after announcing their divorce, the Daily Mail is reporting who will get custody of their beloved dog. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello issued a joint statement announcing their divorce. The couple had been married for seven years.
Their statement came after people began to question the status of their relationship when Joe shared a throwback photo of him and her on social media to celebrate Sofía’s 51st birthday, with a rather impersonal caption that simply read, “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!”
In the joint statement shared with Page Six, the former couple said, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
During their relationship, the couple rescued a dog named Bubbles in 2021. While Sofia has asked the court to uphold their prenup, the Daily Mail is reporting that Sofia has given full custody of Bubbles to Joe.
The 10-year-old pup has showed up in many of the former couple’s Instagram posts. A source reportedly told the Daily Mail that “not in a million years would Joe part ways with his dog Bubbles and Sofia is well aware of this. Joe said Sofia was gracious about him keeping Bubbles after their breakup.”
The source continued, adding that “Sofia has the biggest heart and would never do anything to hurt [Joe] or Bubbles.”
According to E! News, Joe and Sofía began dating after Sofia ended her relationship with businessman Nick Loeb in June 2014. The love story that is known to the public is Joe “was traveling for work” when he learned Sofia was single.
Joe reached out to Sofia’s Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson for her number. Their first date was in New Orleans.
“Our first date was her giving me every reason why it would never work out. Like, ‘You’re too young, you’re an actor, you’re this, you’re that,’ and she was just doing it to hear herself say it. She was trying to talk herself out of going there,” Joe told Haute Living in 2015.
Eventually, Joe was able to woo Sofia and the rest as they say is history. Eleven months after their first date, the couple became husband and wife.
