Tinder has announced a number of new safety features on its app that will ensure every person has an easy out if their date gets more a little bit more complicated than they expected.
One of those features, as People reports, is a panic button which will let date-goers call 911 if they feel that their date is dangerous in any way. Tinder was able to add the feature after partnering with Noonlight.

In a statement released by Tinder, Brittany LeComte, co-founder and COO of Noonlight, said, “Noonlight acts as a silent bodyguard in situations when you’re alone or meeting someone for the first time. Now, through our integration with Tinder, it can serve as a quick backdrop for daters, helping to deter bad behavior and helping members meet matches with more confidence.”
If a user pushes the panic button at any point during their date, the app will automatically ask them to enter a security code. If they don’t enter it within a certain amount of time, a 911 dispatcher will send them a text. If the user doesn’t answer, the police will be notified so they can respond to the situation as quickly as possible.
It’s been described as a “first-of-its-kind added security measure.” In addition to the panic button, users can also add in pertinent details of each date, including their location and time, so that they can easily be located in case of an emergency.
And, like Instagram, Tinder will begin verifying profiles to further ensure their users safety. In order to get a blue checkmark, users will have to go through a photo verification process to prove they are who they say they are.

Other features like being able to flag someone for sending offensive messages are also in the works.
