Beloved Carpenter Ty Pennington Intubated After Medical Emergency

Eight months after Ty Pennington woke up and couldn’t breathe, the iconic carpenter is speaking out.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pennington opened up about medical emergency and how he is doing today. “I’m great,” he told ET’s reporter. “You know what’s great is if you almost die, you get so much attention. It feels so nice to be that loved. I’m planning another one… No, I’m kidding!”

As Pennington explained, he was rushed to a local hospital after weeks of dealing with a sore throat and woke up that night unable to breath. Turns out, Pennington had an abscess growing in his throat.

Now, Pennington admits the “near-death experience” has put things into perspective for him. “It made me realize you just don’t know when your timecard’s gonna get pulled, so wake up, live every single day to the fullest.”

He continued, adding, “I mean that’s why the 60s is gonna be like time to start doing everything and that’s what I love about being part of these projects because I think we all want to make sure we’ve done things to be remembered.” And that is what Pennington is hoping to do with his show Rock the Block.

Pennington then went on to explain exactly what happened. “To shed some light on why I was MIA… Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe. Turns out, that sore throat I’ve had for the last month was actually an abscess which had grown so large it was closing off my airway. Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver.”

“Wednesday I had surgery and yesterday afternoon I was released from the ICU. Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St.Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO & Summit Health in Frisco for taking such great care of me. A great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something,” Pennington added along with the hashtag, “just happy to be here.”
