While planning a romantic date night with your significant other is standard for Valentine’s Day, you might be at a loss for activities that engage the kids as well. Thankfully there are plenty of Valentine’s Day activities for kids that are a blast for the whole family. From crafts to games, many activities celebrate love and are all about sharing it while making fun with the ones we care for the most.

We have rounded up some delightful Valentine’s Day activities for kids, and many don’t require all that much effort on your part. This holiday is the perfect opportunity to dig through your crafting supplies and use up some of the excess red elements left over from Christmas. It’s also a great excuse to sing romantic songs all day long. However you choose to celebrate, just make sure those kiddos are feeling loved by you!

Heart Scavenger Hunt

Amazon

All it takes for this Valentine’s Day activity is a pack of heart stickers. Press these stickers onto objects all around the house to see how many your kid(s) can find. Reward the winner with candy or give a candy heart for each object they have found.

Lovely Kitty Heart Craft

You can pull this one off with any crafting materials you have on hand. Crafting paper, crafting foam, felt, etc., will all work here. By using hearts, the kids can build a cat character like this. Bonus points if you’ve got some pipe cleaners for whiskers.

Classic Valentine’s Hearts Craft

Instagram

Do you remember making these when you were a kid? These heart crafts are made by folding strips of paper into loops and then attached together. You can instruct the kids to make the strips from old magazine pages or use construction paper. If you’re going with blank paper, ask them to write the name of someone they love on each strip.

Painting with Hearts

If you trust your kid(s) not to make a giant mess, you can cut some sponges into heart shapes for a fun painting session. Provide red, pink, and white paints, and let your little one(s) press away.

Love Song Game + Karaoke

There are countless songs about love. Challenge each family member to name as many love songs as possible. Record each song on a strip of paper. Whoever can name the most in a set amount of time wins a sweet prize. That could be a Valentine’s Day activity for kids alone, but it’s even more fun by taking the next step. Put the paper strips into a bowl and take turns drawing the strips. Then, the person must do a karaoke performance of the song. Encourage them to be as cheesy and overly romantic as possible.

You can reward a prize for the best performance or just enjoy your kids really giving it their all. It’s really fun to watch them try and sing the songs they don’t know!

Love Song Karaoke

You can skip the game portion of the previous activity and just have a family karaoke night. Each person gets to perform their favorite love songs for the group.

Unwrap the Kiss Challenge

Hershey’s kisses are so fun to unwrap with their super thin foil packaging. You can turn it into a challenge by asking kids to put on the thickest mittens they have and see how fast they can unwrap the candy with the mitts on. It’s so much more challenging than you think!

Beaded Sun Catcher

Instagram

Pony beads and a piece of wire are all it takes for a fun Valentine’s Day activity for kids. Ask them to slide beads onto a wire to create an intricate shape. You can be as structured with your instructions as you like. Once their creations are completed, you can call it a day or do as the person in the above image has done and melted the beads down. You can do this with a pair of tongs and your grill. It offers a stained-glass look which is cool but not necessary!

Crepe Paper Heart Wreath

Instagram

Crepe paper is so fun for little hands to crunch up into little balls. You can use a piece of recycled cardboard or poster board to cut out a heart shape. Provide glue and plenty of crepe paper, and let the kid(s) make a heart wreath.

Sweethearts Stack Game

The Valentine’s Day candy we all know and love proves extremely versatile when it comes to games for kids. One such game is a stacking competition. The objective is for kids to see how many candies they can stack on top of one another. It’s more fun to play timed, but you can also measure the towers to see how well their stacking skills are.

Sweethearts Drop Game

With the same candy, you have another fun Valentine’s Day activity for kids. Give your kid a pile of the candies, a pair of chopsticks, and a jar. Time them as they see how many hearts they can put in the jar with their chopsticks. It’s so fun and sweet!

Cupid Says

Cupid Says is simply a Valentine’s Day-themed version of the classic game for a group called Simon Says. You trade the Simon for Cupid and then think of V-Day-themed instructions for them. Think of “hug your neighbor,” “make a heart shape with your hands,” or “touch your heart.”

Paper Plate Love Birds

Instagram

Here’s a classic craft that’s an especially good Valentine’s Day activity for young kids. Cut a paper plate in half for it to become the bird’s body. Offer paint, glue, and construction paper so that children can create heart-shaped wings, beaks, and other features for their love birds.

Paper Roll Love Bugs

Put a toilet paper roll or paper towel roll to good use by recycling the cardboard to make love bugs. Just a few crafting supplies are all it takes for kids to create their own unique love bugs.

I <3 U Handprints

Instagram

Painted handprints are a classic craft for kids, but they are taken to the next level for this Valentine’s Day activity for kids. Depending on your kid’s age/skill with a pair of safety scissors, either cut out the letters I and U and then a heart from a piece of cardboard or construction paper. Paint a hand and then place one of the cutouts on top. The kid will then press their hand down on the paper to reveal the message.

Heart Reveal Craft

Instagram

Here’s a fun one if you have some watercolor paints on hand. Using a white crayon, draw hearts on white paper. When kids paint on the paper, a heart is revealed. If you want your kid involved in every step, ask them to draw the hearts before painting. How cute is that?

Valentine’s Day Mad Libs

This takes a little bit of effort on your part but can turn out to be one of the funniest Valentine’s Day activities for kids. Create a story about cupid, love bugs, love birds, or anything V-Day-themed. Remove a bunch of the nouns and adjectives and prompt your kids to fill them in with their choices. The results should be very silly, garnering all the giggles.

Heart Strings Craft

Instagram

You can do this craft for kids in a variety of different ways. Give your child a piece of paper and plenty of thin strips, and then ask them to weave the piece of paper together. You can use pink and red strips for a sweet theme or use random colors. Once the kids are done, tell them to glue the strips down. Let dry, then cut into a heart for a unique display.
