Valerie Bertinelli has officially ended her 10-year marriage with Tom Vitale. Bertinelli, 62, filed the amended petition in Los Angeles Superior Court this past Thursday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Valerie Bertinelli Ends Decade Long Marriage To Tom Vitale
Vitale and Bertinelli have been separated since December 2019 according to divorce papers obtained by People which also reveal they have no children together.
Documents also confirm the pair have a prenuptial agreement which “is in full force and effect and fully binding on the parties,” according to the outlet.
Bertinelli met financial planner and entrepreneur Vitale — also CEO of e-commerce company Veebow — in 2004 and got engaged in March 2010.
The two married in January 2011, but after ten long years together, filed for legal separation from Vitale this past November. The actress shared a video on Instagram where she responded to a fan who told her she seemed sad.
“I’m just having a very bad day,” she said in the clip. “But you know what? Sometimes we have bad days, and then we get over them. And then there’s a good day. So, I’m looking forward to the good day.”
Many fans and followers were quick to encourage Valerie.
“I sent a message to you a couple weeks ago, Valerie, saying how much I’ve always loved you. I’m your same age and I’m sad and depressed so often. I know you don’t know me, but I would listen if you ever need someone to. It’s so hard to find someone to really hear you….I know. So many people love you,” one user commented.
“You’re amazing. I love how vulnerable and real you are. You give so many people hope. And you’re a damn good chef so there’s that too ???????????? Sending you good vibes,” another user commented.
Prior to Vitale Bertinelli married to the late rock legend Eddie Van Halen from 1981 until 2007. This past fall, the iconic rocker died from cancer at the age of 65. The pair had one child together, son Wolf, now 31. Vitale had four of his own children from a previous marriage.
“It’s not easy,” Bertinelli told AARP Magazine in 2010 of working at their blended-family lifestyle. “I’m looking forward to being an empty nester.”
