Hayes Grier, a former Vine personality, has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, felony conspiracy, and assault in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department revealed in a report how the 24-year-old victim was hospitalized on July 26 with serious injuries after being beaten by Grier. Authorities proceeded to then arrest Grier, 21, this past Friday. Grier was then released the following day on bond.
On July 26, the report states that officers responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. that a man had been physically assaulted. Grier stole the victim’s phone before beating him with his hands, feet, and teeth.
Grier first became popular through Vine alongside his brother Nash. Currently, he has over 5.6 million followers on Instagram and over 880,000 subscribers on YouTube. And in 2015, he became the youngest male contestant to compete on Dancing With the Stars. His older brother Will is a backup quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.
A day before he was arrested, he posted an Instagram ad for Peta campaigning against SeaWorld. “In case you didn’t know, #SeaWorldSucks ????????,” he captioned it. “Thanks for having me @peta.”
But Grier was not the only famed influencer who was arrested this week.
A YouTube influencer who records video confrontations with public officials was charged this past Tuesday with assaulting a woman police had been assisting during a mental health call.
Anthony Michael Wicklace, 20, or as he known on YouTube as the Minnesota Guardian, arrived at a police scene on Summit Avenue in St. Paul this past Sunday night and offered a woman a ride home. He allegedly solicited sex and exposed himself, before ultimately assaulting her with a Taser stun gun.
And when White Bear Police arrived to the scene, the woman still had a Taser prong in her shirt with two blood spots on her shirt. She informed police he sped away, but she was able to get a license plate that registered to Anthony Wicklace.
Police arrested Wicklace at his St. Paul home this past Monday night. And on Tuesday, the Ramsey County Attorney charged Wicklace with second-degree assault and criminal sexual conduct in the 5th degree. Bail was set at $60,000.
In the past three years, Wicklace has garnered an impressive following of nearly 14,000 subscribers on YouTube who view his videos, titled: “First Amendment Audits.” The footage typically involves him walking/trespassing into public buildings and aggressively confronting officials.
