With the help of a baby koala and a baby kangaroo, Bindi Sue Irwin and her husband, Chandler Powell, are sharing a small update when it comes to their unborn child. Believed to be about 17 weeks pregnant, Irwin and Powell couldn’t be more excited to meet their little one in early 2021.
Roughly a month after making their initial pregnancy announcement, Irwin and Powell took to Instagram again, this time sharing images from one of their latest ultrasounds. “The animal joeys we care for are excited to meet our human joey,” Irwin wrote.

“Baby Wildlife Warrior is about the size of a hummingbird now,” the mom-to-be continued. “We can’t wait to teach our little one about the importance of protecting our planet and the beauty of the wildlife and wild places we love so much. Thank you for your kindness and support on this magical journey.”
What the world still doesn’t know yet is if the newlyweds are expecting a boy or a girl.
On August 11, the young couple announced that they were expecting just five months after becoming husband and wife. “Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honor to share this special moment in our lives with you,” she shared on Instagram. “Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives.”
Powell also shared the picture on his Instagram account as well. The soon-to-be dad wrote, “Our little human joey with some of our Australia Zoo joeys. Can’t wait for our baby to meet everyone in person. Being a dad is already the highlight of my life.” Doesn’t that just make your heart melt?
In the comments section of Powell’s post, Irwin wrote, “You’re going to be the best dad,” which is a similar sentiment he shares about Irwin as a mom. Irwin has also shared the story of the day she learned she was pregnant and how she told her husband he was going to be a dad.
“I took a test and ran into the kitchen where Chandler was making us tea. He didn’t hear me come in so I speechlessly watched him pouring the water into my most loved hedgehog mug. This news would change the course of our future in the best way. I started crying tears of pure joy and told my sweetheart husband that my test was positive.”
