Brad Pitt Admits His Reputation of Being Self-Absorbed Stems From a Rare Condition He’s Dealt With Most of His Life

Recently named their newest cover star, Brad Pitt sat down with GQ magazine to talk about what he’s been up to. In one of his more personal interviews in recent times, Pitt talked about everything from his dreams to the reason why he thinks he gained the reputation of being self-absorbed.

When it comes to Brad Pitt, for many of us, the first thing we think about is his good looks. As GQ reported, Pitt has become one of the “greatest heartthrobs of all time.

Brad Pitt Admits His Reputation of Being Self-Absorbed Stems From a Rare Condition He’s Dealt With Most of His Life

While talking with GQ, Pitt admitted he is well aware that he has a reputation of being self-absorbed, but it’s not something he wants to be known for. However, he admits he can’t really help it.

Pitt doesn’t believe that reputation came from being one of the more good-looking people in the world. Instead, he believes it’s because of the rare condition he believes he has.

According to Pitt, he has a condition called prosopagnosia. As the Cleveland Clinic reports, prosopagnosia is otherwise known as “face blindness.”

“Prosopagnosia is a condition that affects your brain only. However, it doesn’t just interfere with your ability to recognize faces. This condition is often a source of anxiety for people.”

Prosopagnosia isn’t curable and is usually permanent. And it’s something Pitt says he’s struggled with for a while.

He struggles to remember new people, to recognize their faces, and he fears it’s led to a certain impression of him: that he’s remote and aloof, inaccessible, self-absorbed. But the truth is, he wants to remember the people he meets and he’s ashamed that he can’t. He’s never been officially diagnosed but thinks he may suffer from a specific condition: prosopagnosia, an inability to recognize people’s faces that’s otherwise known as face blindness.”

“Nobody believes me! I wanna meet another,” Pitt admits when GQ’s Elizaveta Porodina shared that her husband may suffer from prosopagnosia too. Porodina admits it was at that moment she realized Pitt isn’t any of his public perceptions.

“The truth is, sitting with him is an altogether different experience,” Porodina writes for GQ. “He’s affable and charming in all the ways you might hope, but his charisma goes deeper: This is a man who seems deeply committed to forging meaningful connections, to probing life’s existential quandaries, and hearing your personal stories. He’s the opposite of a guy who’d snub you at a party. He’s the guy who wants to see your soul.”
