On March 30, the rapper known as Drake took to Instagram to share a poignant message about the global health crisis we are in the middle of while simultaneously sharing photos of his toddler son, Adonis, for the very first time.
Drake told his over 65 million followers at the time, “What is most important for you right now is to connect to your own inner light. This will create the biggest opening of all. Trust that you have all of the power within to make this happen, and in order to do that connect to the people and things that bring you a lot of joy.”
The photos of little Adonis, rocking his blonde hair and big blue eyes, received over six million likes on Instagram. Now, Drake is opening up about his decision to finally share photos of his son with the world.
According to E! News, while a guest on Lil Wayne‘s Young Money Radio with Lil Wayne on Apple Music, Drake said getting the opportunity to share Adonis with the public was “great for him.”
Drake Explains Why He Decided to Share Photos of His Son Publicly
“It was great for me. It was great for us to just share that with the world,” he shared. “I just woke up one morning and I was like, you know what? This is just something that I want to do.”
Drake added that he also doesn’t want his status of “celebrity” to directly affect how he lives life as a father. “I don’t want to feel like just because of a life choice I made to be a ‘celebrity’ that I got to make everybody live under this blanket… I just wanted to free myself of that.”
The rapper also applauded the host, Wayne Carter, for inspiring him when it came to fatherhood. “I could just tell the way your kids would stare at you that the time and effort that you put in as a father,” Drake said. “So, that was really inspiring for me just to know that I can still keep pushing forward as a musician and be there for my son.”
Since taking to Instagram in March, Drake hasn’t shared any other photos of his son.
