Despite sharing a nearly 12-minute YouTube video of her birth experience, actress Shay Mitchell has stayed pretty quiet about her daughter so far. Yet, the entertainer still got mom-shamed shortly after welcoming her baby girl into the world.
On October 20, Mitchell took to Instagram to announce that her and Matte Babel‘s daughter had been born. The following day, she released the birth video on YouTube, but she never divulged the name of her newborn daughter, how much she weighed, how long she measured, or confirmed her birth date.

These are all things that normally come with a birth announcement. However, it seems like Mitchell and Babel are choosing to keep their baby girl out of the public sphere, for now.
What we do know now though, thanks to a short video shared on Mitchell’s Instagram story, is that their baby girl was actually born earlier than October 20 and that the actress has already been mom-shamed on social media.
Just a few days after announcing her daughter’s birth, Mitchell shared a video of her and Babel celebrating rapper Drake‘s 33rd birthday on October 23. Many people assumed that because Mitchell announced her daughter’s birth on October 20, that was her birth date, thus some of her followers mom-shamed her for “partying” so soon after giving birth.

Some of the comments read, “This girl really left her 3 day old baby to go party!!! Mom of the year!!!” And another said, “Mother of the year right here!!!! As if you seriously could leave your baby to go party?!!! I hope the child’s aid look into this and your abilities to be a good parent cause damn!!! Lacking some serious skills there sweety! #selfish”
Ummm, these comments are a bit over the top, don’t you think?
After seeing the comments, Mitchell took to her stories to defend herself and at the same time, confirmed that her daughter wasn’t born on October 20, but days before that.

“I haven’t been checking my comments that often but apparently people are really upset that three days after having a kid to go out party. It wasn’t three days…”
She went on to joke that people should know that they made sure to leave their daughter in good hands, “…And I left her with Angel, so.” Angel is Mitchell’s beloved dog.
As the video seems to show, Mitchell—along with all the other mothers out there—have no time for people’s shaming ways. And neither should the shamers quite honestly.
