A family in Illinois is trying to find the source of odd sounds that have been coming out of their bedroom wall and keeping them awake for almost six years straight.
The Smith family continues to be shaken at the strange voices and music that play through 9-year-od Brianna Smith‘s bedroom wall in the middle of the night, despite having no speaker in there according to WLS-TV
“We hear it audibly, and it keeps us up at night,” Brianna’s dad, Richard Smith, shared. “It woke me up out of a sound sleep.”
“There are voices in the wall and I don’t know what it is,” Brianna added.

The family reports how they usually hear the odd sounds during the late hours of the night and into the early morning.
In reports obtained by PEOPLE, they have reported the noises to the local police department.
An officer wrote he heard “voices and music” coming from the walls that seemed to be “talking about Christ.”
According to the police report, the officer later claimed he heard a commercial for the Christian radio station AM 1160.
Smith decided to record the strange sounds on his phone as proof and show them to WLS in a recording. Music and a pastor’s muffled speaking could be heard on the voice sample.
“He is praying over someone for healing,” Smith shared. Then, commenting on the music, he said, “It’s one of our favorite songs, but not at 10 o’clock at night.”
After tearing up Brianna’s bedroom’s walls himself to inspect the area and electrical grounding, he came to his own theory.
According to WLS, Smith informed police he believes the noises are coming from a nearby radio tower.
An engineer from AM 1160, owned by Salem Media Group, visited the Smith’s residence to investigate the issue but he himself was flabbergasted.
“He said, ‘I got to be honest with you. I don’t know what is acting as a speaker. There is nothing I can explain of why you’re actually hearing it,’” Smith shared.
“Sometimes when we think we’ve arrived at a solution, the next season comes around, and it’s back,” Smith went on.
A director of engineering for Cumulus Media (not associated with the engineer), Patrick Berger, spoke to WLS and said the seemingly random noise is not as unique as most would believe.

“It doesn’t happen all the time, but it does,” he shared. “When it comes to something like this, there is a small amount of people who actually have experience… AM is a wild thing.”
Berger also shared how they could be corroded piping, ductwork, or a certain placement of metal beneath the walls that is causing the sounds — but the Federal Communications Commission has rules in place that state they have no obligation to help.
“The metal could act like a speaker. That is what they are hearing,” suggesting that the Smith family should consider hiring an experienced engineer.
In the interim, Brianna says she has been sleeping in her parent’s room until the strange sounds decide to leave.
