“I’m due to deliver in less than a month, but for the first time ever, I’ve gotten a cold sore! Thanks to my little brother stealing a sip of my milkshake while he had them, he gave me one! I’m terrified because I see posts where babies die from the cold sore virus, and I’m scared I may be a threat to my little one if this thing doesn’t heal up quickly! Not to mention they hurt and look disgusting. How do I get rid of it? And what happens if I deliver before I’m able to? Any tips or advice?“

Whatever you do, if you have a cold sore and you are around a baby, do not kiss them. One commenter told this expectant mother, “Absolutely do not kiss your baby. Speak to your doctor for a pill that will clear it up.”
Another person added, “A teaspoon of baking soda and water every hour for a few days. Low sugar intake and get your rest. Baking soda helps your body be alkaline instead of acidic. When we are acidic is when the virus comes out.” One person also said, “Don’t kiss your baby or let anyone kiss your baby like ever because they’re contagious before they show up and the cold sore virus is deadly to babies under 6 months old.”
And one mom wrote, “I had a cold sore as well and delivered my daughter while I still had it. My midwife prescribed antibiotics to help clear the cold sore before I delivered and even after I delivered and I never kissed my daughter until it was fully gone. It was the most painful thing to do not kissing my daughter after she was born but she was born healthy and is now 3-and-a-half months old.”
