An Indiana teacher is facing six months to more than two years in prison after he was caught slapping a student into a wall. On February 25, Michael Hosinski was charged with battery causing moderate injury after a judge found there was probably, NBC 5 reports.
Hosinski’s actions were also caught on surveillance video. The video shows the 61-year-old teacher grabbing the student, who was seemingly walking away from him, by the backpack while simultaneously slapping the student in the head as his head hits the wall next to them.

The student who suffered injuries told officers that Hosinski followed him when he was told to leave his classroom. Before he knew it, Kosinski grabbed him by the backpack and forced his head to strike the wall as he was slapped by his teacher.
The student said the teacher’s actions left him with a bloody nose, lip, and a throbbing head. Officers noted seeing abrasions on the student’s face and a lump on his head.
According to the school district, the verbal argument between the teacher and student occurred after Hosinski allegedly confronted the student about the hoodie he was wearing. was asked to leave the classroom.
Hosinski was released on $1,500 bail and is expected in court next Thursday. The teacher had plans to retire at the end of the year. However, the school board granted his request for immediate retirement on February 28, something the student’s father was upset by.
According to the South Bend Tribute, Hosinski was named Jimtown High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2020. “The safety of students attending Baugo Community Schools is our highest priority and greatest responsibility,” Baugo Community Schools said in a statement.
“When anyone, including a teacher, undermines that priority and responsibility, swift action must and will be taken to safeguard Jimtown students,” the district said, “anything less cannot be tolerated.” Hosinski is no longer permitted on school grounds.
Good Morning America reported that despite his action, Hosinski has a lot of support behind him with many people pushing for his tenure and retirement to be saved. And while Hosinski supporters claim many students “thought the world of him,” this isn’t the first time his behavior has been questioned.
