Twins Born in Different Decades? Yes, It Happened… And It Makes Perfect Sense When You Think About It

Having a baby on New Year’s Eve can come with some unexpected side effects. In one family’s case, they delivered twins that evening around the stroke of midnight, with one twin being born before the clock struck 12 and the other being born after the start of a whole new decade!

The new babies were therefore born on two different days, two different years, and two different decades. What a fun story for them to tell when they’re older!

Dawn Gilliam from Indiana went to the hospital on New Year’s Eve after there were some concerns about lack of fetal movement, reported People magazine. She wasn’t due to give birth until February 19, but after complications, she gave birth early, according to CBS News affiliate 10 TV.

Her daughter, Joslyn, was born first at 11:37 p.m. on December 31, weighing 4 lbs. 11 oz. In fact, Joslyn was the last baby born at Ascension St. Vincent Carmel Hospital that year.

On the other hand, her son Jaxon was the first baby born in 2020 at the hospital, making his arrival at 12:07 a.m., weighing 4 lbs. 7 oz.

The twins’ father, Jason Tello, spoke to WSAV about the surprising birth dates. “Earlier, we talked about it would be great to have them born on different dates. But here we are with this surprise – different dates, different years. That was definitely interesting for sure. We’re still kind of speechless still.”

Both twins are currently in the NICU on feeding tubes and will most likely be in the hospital for a bit, according to WSAV.
