When a family suffers a miscarriage it can be truly devastating. It’s been an extremely difficult few days for James Van Der Beek and his family. Kimberly Van Der Beek nearly lost her life from complications with her pregnancy.
On last week’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, James revealed, “My wife Kimberly and I went through every expecting parent’s worst nightmare,” he said in a prerecorded segment, “We lost the baby.”
Kimberly Van Der Beek is on the mend and shared how she’s healing and doing her best to move forward.
Last week Kimberly and James Van Der Beek revealed they’d suffered a miscarriage.
James shared a touching Instagram post. He captioned the post, in part, “Wrecked. Devastated. In shock. That’s how we’re feeling right now after the soul we thought were going to welcome into our family in April… has taken a short cut to whatever lies beyond this life.”
Since the post, Kimberly was quiet for a time. Now, she’s sharing how she’s doing.
In an Instagram story, Kimberly shared how she was healing.
Friends sent her a care package with essentials to make the healing process more comfortable. It contained holistic remedies including health supplements, tea, and a heating pad.
True friends really shine in times like this.
She also shared her gratitude with followers and fans.
“I’m definitely healing. My biggest thing is my blood pressure,” she explained to her fans. “I get very lightheaded so I can’t really get up and walk around for more than a couple minutes. A lot of blood transfusion action this weekend so I’m just taking it easy, trying to restore and build my blood.”
In addition to the health update, she also says she’s received tons of messages from her friends and loved ones. How beautiful.
She also gave us a look at her recovery.
There are machines monitoring Kimberly’s blood pressure. She posted about it saying, “This machine tells me that I need more blood flow to my brain, so after fainting all weekend, I would say that this machine is pretty effective.”
At least she’s still got that signature wit.
Kimberly publicly announced that she was expecting back in October.
James and Kimberly had announced the pregnancy in October.
This is devastating, but this family can come back from it.
This family is rock solid and if any family can overcome a tragedy, they can.
In fact, this isn’t the family’s first miscarriage.
When James posted the pregnancy announcement on his Instagram account, he captioned it differently than Kimberly. He discussed their struggles in the past saying:
“Thrilled beyond belief to announce that another little bundle of joy has picked us to be their family. We chose to have our first ultrasound on camera with our #DWTS crew capturing the result – something I NEVER thought we’d ever do… but [Kimberly] and I have been through three of those first appointments to discover either no heartbeat, or no baby, and she wanted to share this moment.”
He continued describing the stigma surrounding miscarriage:
“But there needs to be zero shame around it, or around giving yourself the time and space to grieve. We decided to put ourselves out there – not knowing what we’d find – in an effort to chip away at any senseless stigma around this experience and to encourage people who might be going through it to open themselves up to love & support from friends and family when they need it most.”
He even posted about the social pressure around miscarriages.
He had further things to say about the topic:
“There needs to be zero shame around it, or around giving yourself the time and space to grieve. We decided to put ourselves out there – not knowing what we’d find – in an effort to chip away at any senseless stigma around this experience and to encourage people who might be going through it to open themselves up to love [and] support from friends and family when they need it most. Happily, for us – this time- we walked out with tears of joy.”
