‘Sister Wives’ Star Janelle Brown Opens Up About Separation From Kody Brown: ‘I’m Happy, Really Happy’

Season 17 has been an emotional rollercoaster for the Sister Wives family, but one sister wife – Janelle Brown – is opening up about her newfound happiness after leaving her husband, Kody Brown, a few months ago. While Kody started his journey with four wives, he’s officially down to just one wife now.

Janelle and Kody became spiritually married in 1993 – she was his second wife after marrying Meri Brown three years prior. They share six children together, including 28-year-old Logan, 27-year-old Madison, 25-year-old Hunter, 24-year-old Garrison, 21-year-old Gabriel, and 18-year-old Savanah.

Their relationship used to be perfect for Janelle, who appreciated how separate Kody kept his four marriages. Unfortunately, that relationship has faltered over the past few years and the downfall was documented throughout Season 17 of the show – which started in mid-September and ended last month.

During the recent ‘One on One’ episode, which aired on Jan. 8, Janelle Brown discussed how “happy, really happy” she is now that her marriage to Kody Brown is no longer. After confirming the two have separated, she explained how their marriage ‘became sort of indifferent’ and she ‘didn’t care anymore.’

“I’ve kind of mourned that that part of our life is gone. I wasn’t heartbroken. It wasn’t heartbreaking for me like it was for Christine [Brown]. It was just kind of like, I just mourned that that life was gone…. We had this great run,” she said, speaking to host Sukanya Krishnan. She’s happy she ended it when she did.

Not only that, but the sister wife clarified that she has no interest in reconciling with Kody, despite his desires to one day rescue their marriage. Of course, her religion and faith require her to continue working through marriage recovery – which she will honor, but with no intention of getting back with him.

“I know I’m happy, I don’t want him to come back. But my faith requires that we are married eternally,” she explained. In other words, her door will never completely shut on the idea of reconciling because that’s what her faith requires, but she has no interest in anyone – ahem, Kody – walking through that door.

Janelle Brown Isn’t the Only Sister Wife to Leave Kody Brown

Janelle Brown isn’t the only sister wife who’s now separated from Kody Brown. In fact, three of his four wives have now moved on and are no longer in a relationship with the TLC star. While he remains married to Robyn Brown – since 2014 – his three marriages of nearly three decades are no longer.

Christine Brown announced her separation from Kody on Instagram in November 2021. They were married for roughly 25 years and share six children together – Aspyn (27), Mykelti (26), Paedon (24), Gwendlyn (20), Ysabel (19), Truely (12). Christine has since moved away to be closer to her children.

Meri Brown, who was Kody’s first wife in 1990, announced her separation from Kody towards the end of Season 17 – in December. They legally divorced in 2014, which was required in order for Robyn to join the family, but remained together up until recently. She was the third wife to end her marriage to Kody.

As for Robyn Brown, she’s sticking by her husband’s side – which comes as no surprise, considering the other wives often complained of him favoring Robyn over them. Since adopting her three children from a previous relationship, Kody has had two more children with Robyn – a son and a daughter.
