Jennifer Grey’s Admits She Had ‘The Nose Job From Hell’ After Dirty Dancing

About seven years after becoming a worldwide hit in the movie Dirty Dancing, Jennifer Grey was featured on Friends.

And since the actress had captured hearts around the world as Baby Houseman, many were elated to watch her appearance on “The One with the Evil Orthodontist” episode.

However, Grey, 60, looked so different as the character Mindy that many questioned if it was actually her or not.

The then 34-year-old had undergone two nose job surgeries just after rising to fame, which made her face look completely different.

Those who were taken with Grey were very disappointed and bewildered by the dramatic transformation. And for a bit, it even impacted Grey’s career — which led the actress to take a brief break from acting after Dirty Dancing.

Just weeks before the film’s 1987 premiere, she had been involved in a car crash in Ireland with her then-boyfriend and fellow actor Matthew Broderick. The two had starred in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off the year prior.

Grey was in the passenger seat while Broderick drove. Broderick then drifted onto the wrong side of the road and collided with an oncoming car. Grey suffered whiplash, however, the collision killed a mother and daughter in the other vehicle.

This caused the actress to feel guilt amid the release of her smash hit film as she was suffering from “survivor’s guilt”, and Grey took some time off after the promotional tour ended.

Her next film was the 1989 period comedy Bloodhounds of Broadway, which starred Madonna.

Three years later, Grey finally re-appeared on the silver screen in the movie, Wind. Sadly, it was a box-office flop, making $5.5 million in the US against a $US29 million budget.

She then underwent surgery before appearing on Friends in 1995.

In a 2012 interview, Grey addressed the nose job and was even able to make a joke out of the entire incident.

“I went in the operating theatre a celebrity and come out anonymous,” she said at the time. “It was like being in a witness protection program or being invisible.”

“It was the nose job from hell. I’ll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognises because of a nose job.”
