It’s been about a month since the public found out that dream celebrity couple Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello were getting a divorce. It appears that Manganiello has turned to ink for some closure. The tattoo pays homage to the actor’s Armenian heritage and was designed by an Armenian artist, Ruben Malayan, specializing in calligraphy. Malayan shared an image of the finished result on August 22, writing, “My latest work, so far largest in scale Հրեշտակ (Angel) for @joemanganiello who I am sure will wear it with pride!”
Yes, the Magic Mike star got the word “Angel” tattooed in Armenian. It’s bold and black and massive in size. We’ll share the image with you below and some other tattoos inspired by it so that you can imagine your very own design.
Joe Manganiello’s ‘Angel’ Tattoo
Isn’t his new tattoo awesome? An empowering design that honors heritage, this tattoo looks as metal as they come. Now, let’s take a look at other designs similar to it.
In this stunning forearm tattoo, we find many Berber symbols decorating this arm. It’s absolutely dazzling.
Get into the waves with abstract forearm tattoos that play with shape for a cool look. Work with a tattoo artist to come up with your very own design and even consider playing with optical illusions.
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel when brainstorming tattoo ideas. Stick to familiar shapes and you will discover that simplicity is bliss.
Quotes and other sentiments are often found on forearm designs. In this example, we see a Latin phrase made famous by Julius Caesar. Other sayings are welcome on your forearm!
Perhaps your tattoo designs are more about the form than anything else. Abstract tattoos are a celebration of the movement in art and they feel almost taboo among so many designs that attempt to recreate the likeness of a thing.
What It Is
Check out this lovely lettering! “It is what it is,” is one of the most annoying things people say, but it sure looks excellent as in these swooping letters.
They put vibes in their vibes. This awesome red ink tattoo has transformed letters to mimic the word’s meaning.
“You only hit me up in your lonely hours,” is the perfect sad-girl tattoo that we’d totally get. This casual font helps bring humanity to the design.
A brutalist typeface will help bring a design a bold and structured appeal. A concept as esoteric as magic seems concrete in this example.
Here’s a fun font! We feel like you would find similar on a travel brochure from the late 80s or early 90s.
You should absolutely go baroque and grand with your fonts. If you don’t want a demur design, choose an exceptionally grandiose font like this one.
Don’t let them dictate how you do you. We love this intricate font and the scratched-through detail.
Fun fact: the forearm is one of the least painful spots to be tattooed. Here we find a cool geometric pattern that’s understated but still fun.
Big blocks with intricate fill? Yes, please! Again, we find an abstract, geometric designs inside each block of black ink. If you want to start a full or half sleeve tattoo this is a great way to get the ball rolling.
For men (and overall), black ink is the color of choice. Here’s an awesome black and grey tattoo for you to see just how effective these types of tattoo can be. But, if color is the way you want to go, be bold!
In this design, we find a moody take with very bright brights and the darkest of blacks. They create a thrilling contrast that reads as ethereal and even haunting.
Most rose tattoos for men forgo ornamental elements and instead come off as straightforward. However, in the above example, we find some ornamentation at the wrist with an abstract shape that forms a V. Above it, we have the star of the show, the rose, which is magically engulfed in flames. What a winner!
3D tattoos like this are a mildly popular trend today. We think it’s a really fresh effect that we would like to see more of among rose tattoos.
The tattoo artist who shared this design wrote that he was inspired by Polynesian design. We love the way the abstract portion outlines the name Warren.
Virgen de Guadalupe or Our Lady of Guadalupe is the symbol of Mexico. This majestic design features a lot of dark ink that makes her appear to be radiating light. Beautifully done.
This ornamental tattoo is given a boost and touch of whimsy from the eye in its center. Mysterious and magical, this design benefits from bold, clean line-work.
We’ve seen a number of Asian-inspired designs on this list. In this example, we find a tidy Pagoda flanked by beautiful flowers.
Get Lost in the Symbols
Ancient symbols are composed together in these half sleeve tattoos that look like decorate art. Clean and crisp lines make these designs really stand out.

There you go! Now, you have plenty of ink inspiration to take to an artist near you. Joe Manganiello went big and bold with it, and you can do the same. For even more ink inspiration, keep reading. We’ve got Romeo Beckham’s newest ink to share with you as well!
Romeo Beckham’s Tattoo: An Exact Replica
The tattoo artist shared this image of Romeo’s new piece with the caption, “like father, like son @davidbeckham.” He also shared that the design is a copy of Mark Mahoney‘s original for David from the Shamrock Social Club in Los Angeles.
“I hope I did it justice,” he also added.
What Does It Say?
According to Mirror UK, the quote is from Joel Osteen’s book I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life. The full quote says:
“I DECLARE I have the grace I need for today. I am full of power, strength, and determination. Nothing I face will be too much for me. I will overcome every obstacle, outlast every challenge, and come through every difficulty better off than I was before. This is my declaration.”
Romeo’s Other Father-Son Tattoos
Arguably David’s most recognizable and, dare we say, iconic tattoo is of a cross with wings on the back of his neck. In the above image, you are looking at the back of Romeo’s neck. Further, Romeo also has the word “love” tattooed across his fingers, just like his pops.
Other Father-Son Tattoo Ideas
A Popular Portrait
One of the, if not the most popular, father-son tattoo shows a father and son walking away from the viewer. Typically, the pair are seen hand-in-hand or with the little one on the shoulders, like in the above example.
Here’s another style of portrait that proves that these types are very popular, but no two are the same. We like how the artist designed the path in front of this father and son.
Any tattoo can be for a father and son as long as it’s expressing a shared passion. These matching designs show tiny figures fishing in front of a mountain landscape.
Another one of the most popular types of father-son tattoos shows a fist bump between an adult’s hand and a baby’s. Compasses and clocks are popular pairing due to their symbolic meaning.
Here’s a delightful little scene that finds baby’s feet in dad’s hands. With a meditative feel, this design looks peaceful and serene, a perfect representation of a father’s love.
Childhood pop culture favorites are also fairly popular. We find Goofy and his son, Max, in this design inspired by A Goofy Movie.
Passing Down the Crown
A mildly popular choice finds a father’s hand passing down a crown to his son. Look closely, and you will see the name Tobias inscribed on the crown. A fantastic idea!
We told you clocks were popular! A father’s embrace is captured in this heartwarming piece. This is another extremely popular style of father-son tattoo.
Baseball and Jr.
This person requested a design to show off his two greatest passions: being a father and baseball. Imagery from each, including “Jr.” on the ballcap mingle together in a harmonious fashion.

“Father & Son” has been placed on the side of this cool, old car. We imagine this pair really enjoys classic cars and fixing them up together.

Color Is Also Great
Goku and baby Gohan for the win! Finally, some color! Without a doubt, black ink is the direction most take their tattoos. But color is also great, especially if you’re depicting characters from your favorite Anime series like this.
Matching Abstract Designs
Now, time for a flex! This dad and his kid decided to get matching abstract designs. What do you think? We believe they turned out well.
If you’re looking for a unique way to get a portrait, consider going with an understated single-line look. These types of designs offer so much warmth through a unique perspective.
This pair decided to get matching beetle tattoos. Okay! We saw a pair of matching bees, but bugs aren’t all too common among father-son tattoos.
“Like father, like son,” these matching hand pieces say. If you’re not about ambiguity and prefer to get to the point, a quote is a surefire way to get you there.
These anchors are based on a classic Sailor Jerry design. Anchors are symbols of steadfast loyalty and stability, making them a great subject matter for father-son tattoos.
Father and Son of the Empire
People certainly love their Star Wars tattoos. If father and son grew up watching these movies together, why not use them as inspiration?
In Callum’s Eyes
Wow! These eyes are as piercing as they come. This dad has gotten his son’s name, Callum, just beneath them, tattooed in a handsome font. Realism is no easy task for artists, so if you want the style make sure you do your homework.
