While talking with Wasser, Kim said she got pregnant with North about a month after getting off of birth control and starting the process of freezing her eggs after learning she had a low egg count.

“The plan was to freeze my eggs, ’cause all the doctors said, ‘You should freeze your eggs.’ But what I learned was, when you’re on the pill and you’re going to check any of your egg count, big mistake, just don’t do that. The pill is supposed to suppress all of that. So you cannot know if you’re really supposed to do any of that until you’re really off the pill.”

However, what fans may not know until now is that when Kim and Kanye West conceived North, Kim was still legally married to her ex-husband, professional basketball player Kris Humphries. Despite having been in a committed relationship with Kanye for seven months before learning they were pregnant, Kim admitted there was still a lot up in the air in terms of her life, E! News reports.

Not too mention, things were made even more stressful for soon-to-be mom because she had just moved to Miami with her sister Kourtney Kardashian to film one of their many spinoff reality shows, Kourtney & Kim Take Miami. Shortly after moving to Florida and learning she was pregnant, Kim started experiencing heavy bleeding and pain.

“It was all new territory to me and I was so scared. And, literally, I thought I had a miscarriage, ’cause I was really heavily bleeding and in so much pain in Miami. Went in, ’cause you have to go and do like a D&C (dilation and curettage) to clean out your miscarriage.”

And at first, her fear was confirmed during her initial doctor visit. “There was no heartbeat. ‘Oh, you had a miscarriage,'” her doctor told her. The beauty mogul went home then came back on Thanksgiving Day 2012.

That’s when they found North’s heartbeat again. “We ended up obviously having North, and I had a really bad pregnancy, I had preeclampsia, I delivered six weeks early, she was four pounds and I had something called placenta accreta, where the placenta grows inside your uterus.” And her second pregnancy wasn’t easy either.

It was after Saint’s pregnancy that Kim decided to turn to surrogacy to continue growing their family. In the years following Saint’s birth, Kim and Kanye welcomed to more children, Chicago and Psalm, into their family via surrogacy.
