Kourtney Kardashian Gives Travis Barker the Comfort and Support Needed to Start Flying Again

On September 19, 2008, famed drummer Travis Barker boarded a private jet to LA with his friend Adam Goldstein – there were several other passengers on board. The pilots were forced to abort takeoff due to a burst wheel, sending the plane into an embankment where it was immediately smothered in flames.

Four of the six people on that jet were killed – Barker and Goldstein were the two survivors. The former Blink-182 drummer opened up about the horrid experience in an interview with Joe Rogan, explaining how he ‘jumped right into the jet, which is full of fuel.’ He suffered burns on 65% of his body that day.

He would go on to spend nearly four months in a hospital and had more than 27 surgeries to ensure he could live a normal life. Still, the damage was done as his mental health began to deteriorate – to the point of telling friends he would deposit $1 million into their bank account if they help him commit suicide.

Those dark days are over now – more than 14 years later. He has been dating Kourtney Kardashian since late 2020 and the couple got married on May 15, 2022. While they don’t share any children together (yet), they each have three children from previous relationships. Their blended family is as happy as ever.

In fact, Kourtney has been a blessing in Barker’s life on many fronts. In August 2021, the drummer posted a photo of him and his now-wife about to board a plane. It was the first time he was boarding an airplane since the tragic accident, captioning the photo ‘With you anything is possible’ – a nod to Kourtney.

Since then, the couple have traveled together on multiple occasions as Kourtney gives her man the comfort and support needed to overcome his PTSD and survivor’s guilt – which have made it difficult for him to fly over the past 14 years. Even the sight of an airplane would make him feel uneasy and scared.

“I couldn’t walk down the street. If I saw a plane [in the sky], I was determined it was going to crash, and I just didn’t want to see it,” he said in May during an interview with Men’s Health. He has come a long way since those days and while he still gets nervous on an airplane, his wife provides comfort and support.

In a recent episode of The Kardashians, fans were shown a beautiful moment between the two as they prepared for a recent takeoff. Feeling uneasy, Travis held his wife’s hand. Noticing his unease, Kourtney asked him if he wanted to say a prayer before takeoff. They both close their eyes as she recites a prayer.

“Dear Lord Jesus. Please take us from LA to Italy safely. Please give us comfort and peace. May Angels sit on our wings of our plane in Jesus’ name. Amen,” says Kourtney – to which Barker responds, “Thank you God, amen.” The two kiss – as they always do – and later arrive in Milan, Italy – safe and sound.

After the episode aired, fans took to social media to praise the love these two share. “The fact that he nearly died in a plane crash and Kourtney was the first one to get him back on a plane is a love story in itself,” said one TikTok user. Others called the moment ‘meaningful,’ ‘cute,’ and ‘amazing.’
