Mom Was Asymtematic After Unknowingly Contracting COVID-19 and Spreading the Virus to 17 of Her 18 Children, Then the Symptoms Hit Her Family ‘Like a Freight Train’

A mom of 18 is opening up about the moment she learned that she had spread COVID-19 to 17 of her 18 children before she even knew she had it herself. The mom, Brittany Bowman Jencik, admitted to WHAM that it has been a difficult time for her and her family.

Currently, all 18 of her children, some of whom have been adopted by her, live in her home. Then five weeks ago, as WHAM reports, Jencik had unknowingly contracted the virus. At first, Jencik was asymptomatic.

It wasn’t until later that Jencik began experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, and as she explained, when the symptoms hit her they hit her hard. “It’s been a tough month. It’s been a very tough month.”

“I had two days were I was extremely concerned that I was never going to be the same,” Jencik said before the symptoms hit 17 out of the 18 kids in her household. She described that scary moment as “like a freight train” hitting her home.

At the time, Jencik sent a public service announcement to her Facebook friends and the people in her community. In the post, the mom expressed her frustrations as to not having access to tests despite exhibiting symptoms and testing negative to the flu and strep throat.

“It was terrifying. I was a little ahead of them in the timing of it all. I was as afraid of my life as I had ever been, and not much scares me.” Now, roughly a month later, she and all of her kids are recovering but she’s afraid the virus will come back because it is now sitting on all of their surfaces in their home.

Luckily, as WHAM reports, her friend Matt Moreno, who is the CEO of Purify Global, stepped in to help the mom of 18. The company helped Jencik protect “the people I love to the best extent [she] possibly could,” by thoroughly disinfecting Jencik’s home.

Moreno explained to WHAM how his staff protected themselves as they cleaned the mom’s home, which took roughly two hours. “We will get dressed up in rubber hazmat suits. We put on commercial grade gas masks with a cartridge that’s meant to withstand a nuclear attack.”

The family remains in isolation, together, as they continue to recover.
