The sports world is in awe after cameras captured an emotional moment between a mom and her son.
On November 4th, the USC Trojans took on the undefeated Washington Huskies.
The game was a close one that game down to the last minutes with the Trojans poised to give the Huskies their first loss. However, the Trojans were unable to do that and score at the end of the fourth quarter was 52 to 42 with the Huskies on top.
But it was after the clock struck zero that people are talking about.
Following the game, USC’s quarterback Caleb Williams jumped into his mom’s arms and allowed his emotions to take over. The entire moment was captured by ESPN’s cameras.
The video shows Williams sobbing as his mom held him close and shielded his face with her sign.
In the comments section, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III praised Williams for his vulnerability. “Watching Caleb Williams sobbing with his family after losing the game will BREAK YOUR HEART,” Griffin wrote.
“This young man pours his heart out for his team EVERY TIME he plays. Any NFL team would be lucky to have him as their QB and this emotion shows how much this game means to him.”
And many people agreed with Griffin, and defended Williams against the naysayers who shamed him for being emotional after the loss.
“I am honestly appalled at some of the comments being assessed to this young man. He did his absolute best to make a difference for his team,” another commenter wrote. “As a mother of an athlete it’s heart breaking to see your kid take a hard loss. I’m a die hard UW fan and I enjoyed the game!”
“It was about coaching at the end of the day and a shootout. I salute you young man. Moms are always the MVP. At the end of the day you will always be our baby first. Everything else doesn’t matter!!!”
