Police are trying to wrap their heads around why Naomi Bell would shoot her children. The mother of three allegedly shot and killed her daughter, 15, and critically wounded her son, 7. Bell has another child who was not home at the time of the incident.
On the evening of November 13, 2020 police responded to a 911 call. Connecticut State Police say they found two juveniles in the home, both shot. The 15-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bell’s son was transferred to an area hospital and listed in critical condition.

Naomi Bell was arrested and faces murder charges with special circumstances and criminal attempt to commit murder with special circumstances. She remains in police custody after her bond was set at $2.5 million.
The only clue as to why this happened is the mental state of Bell. In an affidavit, her husband Owen Bell, who was home at the time of the incident and unharmed, said she became “extremely depressed” during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Homeland Security was circling the house and would come take her and the kids if she said she surrendered,” said Owen Bell. He also said he was concerned she had not been taking prescribed anti-psychotic medication.
Bell’s public defender, Jassette Henry, said her client recently had two “psychiatric episodes” that required hospitalization for over two weeks. “Prior to that, my client had no further criminal involvement … so it’s very clear that my client is experiencing her first psychosis experience,” Henry said.
Bell remained silent during her arraignment. She is invoking her Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights by refusing to speak to police about the shooting of her children.
