The Royal Family welcomed the addition of a new baby boy when Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, gave birth to their second child. They shared the exciting news in an Instagram post, which revealed the newborn’s birth date, weight, name, and even the meaning behind his name.
Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs.,” Princess Eugenie wrote on Instagram. She shared two photos of the new baby – a closeup of Ernest George’s face and a photo of Ernest meeting his big brother, August.
Eugenie and Jack are already parents to one child after giving birth to their first son, August Philip Hawke on February 9, 2021. In her Instagram post, Eugenie confirmed Augie – their nickname for August – is already enjoying life as a big brother. In the photo, August is placing his hand on top of Ernest’s head.

The couple also explained the meaning behind the new baby’s name. “He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald,” Princess Eugenie wrote – honoring several family members, all of whom have passed away (some more recently than others).
Ernest’s great-great-great-Grandfather George is assumed to be King George V, which would be Eugenie’s great-great-Grandfather. King George V, who was the grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II, was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India between 1910 and 1936.
Ernest’s ‘Grandpa George’ is referring to George Brooksbank – the father of Jack Brooksbank. George was alive when the family welcomed August into the world, but passed away in November 2021 – days before August’s christening. He reportedly passed away of poor health from COVID-19 complications.
Finally, Ernest’s ‘Grandpa Ronald’ is referring to his great-grandfather Major Ronald Ferguson – the maternal grandfather of Princess Eugenie and father of Sarah, Duchess of York. Ronald passed away of a heart attack nearly 20 years ago in 2003 at the age of 71. He was a former royal polo manager.
Sarah Ferguson Cried Over the Name Princess Eugenie Gave Her Baby
On Thursday (June 8), Sarah Ferguson – mother of Princess Eugenie – took to her Tea Talks with the Duchess & Sarah to talk about her new grandson, Ernest. She described him as a ‘very, very seriously beautiful little boy – which she admitted everyone says about a new baby, but confirmed it was true.
The 63-year-old grandmother of three – Princess Eugenie has two children, while Princess Beatrice (Eugenie’s sister) has one child with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – goes by the nickname, GG. She was both surprised and emotional when she found out her newest grandchild’s name honors her father, Ronald.
“When Jack and Eugenie told me, it was so moving that they put my dad in there. It was very kind, I thought. Made me cry, of course,” she said of the gesture. And while she would love to start posting a flurry of pictures of the new addition, she understands she has to abide by ‘Granny rules’ and be careful.
