Rory Feek Pens Touching Tribute Entitled ‘Motherless Day’ 5 Years After Losing His Wife

Country music’s Rory Feek paid tribute to his late wife on Mother’s Day this year with a heartfelt blog entry.

Rory’s wife, Joey Feek, lost her battle with cancer in 2016 and while the star is still mourning her death, he writes that he does have many women in his life to appreciate on Mother’s Day.

Joey gave birth to the couple’s daughter shortly before her death and Rory Feek took the time to reflect on his late wife and thanked those who are helping him raise his daughter, Indiana.

The post published on Sunday is titled “Motherless Day.”

“In May 2014, Joey celebrated her first Mother’s Day with our two-month-old daughter Indiana,” Rory wrote. “It was a beautiful spring morning as she and Indy cuddled in bed together and ‘talked’ to each other about the future.”

The singer wrote that his daughter, who he calls “Indy,” is now 7-years-old and that they spent a “beautiful” day together on Sunday.

“We had a wonderful small church gathering of friends and neighbors in the big barn, then Indy and I made our way to the cemetery with flowers and a card that she had made for her Mama at school this past week,” Rory shared.

The musician went on to explain that his daughter had attached a photo of her late mom to the heart-shaped card she made her. On the back of the handmade card Indy wrote, “I miss you.”

Rory Feek shared that the last five years were not the Mother’s Days that Indy wished she could enjoy, but that he and his daughter can still feel Joey’s presence.

“She can feel her Mama close to her and so can I,” Rory revealed. “And even though Indy can’t see her or tell her how much she loves her in person. I think her Mama knows.”

“Thankfully, Indiana has lots of wonderful women around her who step in and give her their love and their time and attention,” the singer wrote.

“From her big sisters Heidi and Hopie, to my sisters and Joey’s sisters and mama, to Mrs. Rebecca and Miss Molly at the school, and so many others who are helping to guide her and shape into who she is and who she’s going to be,” Rory continued.

“It’s never the same as getting to grow up with your mother I know, but still, it’s good,” he said. “Really really good. And Indy is doing so well. I think her Mama would be… is… proud of her. I know I am.”

Rory concluded by sharing his appreciation to those who have been like “mamas” to Indy.

“Thank you to all the mama’s [sic] who love our little Indiana, who pray for her and root for her in our community and all over the country, even though many have never even met her,” he wrote.

“And to all the mothers everywhere who pour their hearts and lives into their children and sometimes the children of others. I hope your Mother’s Day today is filled with much love and gratefulness for all you do and are,” the post concludes.

What a touching message and amazing father Rory Feek is to Indiana. We are so pleased that he took the time to acknowledge those who have become mother figures to his daughter. While we know a mother can never be replaced, it is heartwarming that Joey’s love is still felt.
