A 34-year-old Twinsburg, Ohio teacher has been sentenced to two years in prison for having sex with her 17-year-old student.
According to PEOPLE, Laura Bucy was arrested in September 2018 and pleaded guilty to felony sexual battery in June of last year.
The former home economics teacher tearfully apologized to the teenage victim’s family, as well as to her former colleagues and her own family during the sentence hearing.
“They all deserve better and I’m sorry I allowed this to occur,” the teacher said, according to The Columbus Dispatch. “I do not believe this incident is a true reflection of who I am and will never let it happen again.
Laura confessed to having sex with her underage male student, sending inappropriate text messages, and purchasing vaping and marijuana products for him.
The sex offender told police that the student “looked and acted like her husband.”

According to the student’s father, the teacher told his son that he could never tell anyone about their encounter or she would lose her job and children.
The teen’s mother said that he has had trouble with dating ever since the crime occurred.
“He’s supposed to feel safe and protected at school — and you took that away from him,” she said.
A written statement from the victim was also shared in court.
“I pray you are never allowed to work with students,” he wrote. “No kid should ever have to go through this.”
With good behavior,Bucy could be released from custody after six months.
