Amber Portwood Says She’s Experiencing ‘A Lot of Guilt’ About Domestic Battery Case

Another day, another Teen Mom star having a rough one.

Last year, Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood was arrested after allegedly pulling a machete on her live-in boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, during a domestic altercation in which she also hit him with a shoe, among other things. Glennon claims he was holding their one-year-old son, James, at the time of the attack.

Shortly after, Portwood temporarily lost the rights to see her son. Since then, she has been in and out of court, trying to regain custody and to move beyond the incident.

On a recent episode of Teen Mom OG, Portwood broke down in tears discussing the ordeal. “All I know is my lawyers are saying don’t say anything. My tongue is completely tied,” Portwood said in the episode, per People Magazine. “When you’re shut up how’re you supposed to say anything?”

But then she added, “I just have a lot of guilt of not being aware of myself more than I should have. And I really do feel ashamed that I didn’t have that because I should after all the things I’ve done to change.”

In November 2019, four months after the incident, audio and video footage of the altercation was leaked via a YouTube channel called Without a Crystal Ball. Portwood referenced that footage on Teen Mom OG, saying, “I want my family. And I feel so bad. When I heard those audios, I felt ashamed, I felt disgusted,” through tears.

In October, Portwood was sentenced to two-and-a-half years of probation and was also court-ordered to attend parenting classes.

Glennon still has primary physical custody of son James, but Portwood has regained some rights since July. The two share joint legal custody of their son, and Portwood can have once-a-week overnights with her son, so long as she has shown “regular care” for him.

Previously, Portwood seemed to deny that the domestic battery incident happened the way it has been reported. During the Teen Mom OG reunion in September, she said, per People, “I literally opted out of drug court a long time ago to put myself in prison to help myself,” she said. “Why would I jeopardize … you haven’t heard s— from me since then, haven’t gotten in trouble one time. But all of a sudden I’m running after him with a machete? You’re insane.”

It now seems, however, Portwood is ready to own up to her mistakes.
