A Russian artist named Oksana Pashchenko is a lifelong Disney fan who loves to reimagine Disney characters for our contemporary world. In a new series of images, Pashchenko transforms classic Disney princesses into uber-stylish pregnant women.
Princesses like Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Mulan are illustrated, sporting baby bumps in cute clothes. The princesses are accompanied by their princes who are also trendily styled. You need to see these Disney characters as you’ve never seen them before!
As promised, Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
Ariel is experiencing a whole new world! She’s wearing a floor-length gown on the beach, which is questionable, but the cute seashell hair accessory is a nice touch. Meanwhile, Prince Eric is looking chill in his business casual look. This fun illustration looks like it could be from any celebrity’s beachy photo shoot.
We also mentioned Mulan and here she is on the Great Wall of China.
Looks like Li Shang did not make a man out of her! Mulan and Captain Li Shang are both looking fabulously sporty on the Great Wall. Mulan’s red flower crown is a nice touch. You can almost imagine this cartoon couple sharing this photo on Instagram if they were real.
Tiana from The Princess and the Frog looks stunning with a baby bump.
Princess Tiana is illustrated with Prince Naveen in front of a castle. The couple both look sharp as if they’re prepared to walk a red carpet or attend some royal function. In this Instagram post, Pashchenko also includes a short video of her creative process and you can see how she makes these amazing Disney-inspired works of art.
Cinderella and Prince Charming look thoroughly modern in their contemporary setting.
Cinderella and Prince Charming look like a cool couple that runs a food co-op in Brooklyn. The original Disney Cinderella came out in 1950 so these two might be feeling a bit out of place, but they certainly don’t look it!
Pocahontas and Captain John Smith are hanging out on the… prairie?
Pocahontas looks like a queen in her white gown while Captain John Smith looks a bit frumpy. Timely! Why is she wearing a gown out on a grassland? You know, every artist interprets things in their own way.
Belle and Prince Adam are looking lovely an not at all beastly.
Princess Belle and Prince Adam from Beauty and the Beast look cute as they pose in a garden. This tale as old as time looks perfectly at home in a contemporary setting. We love Belle’s strappy gown. There really was more for her than that provincial life.
Princess Jasmine and Aladdin get goofy with the baby bump.
Jasmine and Aladdin are really having fun in Pashchenko’s imagining of the two as a pregnant couple. The couple is shown doing a belly bump and both look like they’re really enjoying it. They really did find that whole new world.
Finally, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip look like they’re on an elegant hike.
She’s a Sleeping Beauty no more! Princess Aurora is out in these woods with her prince, Phillip. That ‘Once Upon a Dream’ song came true for this cartoon couple. We’re not sure why Prince Phillip’s facial expression is giving “u up?” vibes, but it sure is.
There you have it! Pregnant Disney princesses are a thing now. Pashchenko’s illustrations are a bit uncanny, but they’re all really fun. She is a very creative artist and she loves infusing her work with her love of all things Disney. You might not have known you needed Disney princesses and princes as expecting parents, but Pashchenko has certainly delivered.
