With Beyoncé and Jay-Z as mom and dad, it’s no surprise that Blue Ivy Carter, the superstars’ 8-year-old daughter, is already an award-winning artist.
Last week, Blue Ivy was awarded the outstanding duo/group prize at the NAACP Image Awards for her song “Brown Skin Girl,” Variety reported. Blue Ivy, who received a writing credit on the song, also sings a few lines.
“Brown Skin Girl” was featured on the soundtrack “The Lion King: The Gift,” inspired by Disney’s remake of The Lion King. And this isn’t the first time Blue Ivy has been awarded for her work on “Brown Skin Girl.’ Last summer, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 list.

Beyoncé, who voiced Nala in the remake, also walked away with six awards, including outstanding female artist, album for “Homecoming: The Live Experience, soundtrack/compilation for “The Lion King: The Gift” and outstanding duo/group for the “Brown Skin Girl” collaboration with Blue Ivy, Saint Jhn, and Wizkid.
It’s no surprise that Blue Ivy is musical. “She is very sassy, high energy and known what she wants,” a source told People about Blue Ivy.
“Especially after the twins were born, Beyoncé made sure that Blue was able to embrace her new role as a big sister. She also lets her go-to video shoots, award shows, and music recording. They have a very special bond,” the source continued.
“Of course both Beyoncé and Blue love music,” the source continued. “She is a natural.” Blue isn’t her and Jay-Z’s only child, they are also parents to twins named Sir and Remi.
