Kim Kardashian West has always been open about using a surrogate to have her 2-year-old daughter Chicago and her youngest son, 8-month-old Psalm.
Now, she’s opening up about using a “surrogate therapist” to help facilitate communication between the surrogate, herself and husband Kanye West. In an interview with E! News about an upcoming episode of the podcast All’s Fair, Kardashian West explained what a surrogate therapist does and why it was helpful for her.

Kim Kardashian West Talks About Using a ‘Surrogate Therapist’ to Help Her and Her Surrogate Communicate While Waiting for Chicago
“You get your surrogate attorney, you get a surrogate broker,” she said. “Then the broker recommended that we use a therapist that would communicate with me first and then communicate with [our surrogate] and kind of be our liaison.”
The therapist recommended that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star speak with the surrogate once a week. She was even told when they should be in touch, like on Mother’s Day and to review the birth plan.
“‘Hey, I think you guys should communicate once a week through text, maybe on Mother’s Day. She’s a mother as well. Maybe get her a massage or something that’s appropriate for her to pamper,'” Kardashian West explained, adding that towards the end of the pregnancy they didn’t need to go through the therapist anymore.
Kardashian West also had her son Psalm via a surrogate as well. However, as she explained she opted not to use a therapist at all that time around “because I kind of knew the drill,” she said. Kanye was also very involved in the process, Kardashian West told Entertainment Tonight.
“Both surrogates that we used were very comfortable with Kanye being involved any way he wanted to be,” she said. “For the first surrogate, we both met her and then met her husband and their kids came over to our house.”
She also shared that Kanye was present for the births of Chicago and Psalm, but he was not in the delivery room.
Kardashian West dealt with pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia, during her first two pregnancies with North and Saint. As a result of the complications, she opted to use a surrogate for her following two children’s birth.

“I’m so thankful for my beautiful kids, no matter how they came to me — they came to me. I’m so thankful for surrogates. I’m really thankful for my family,” Kardashian West said.
“I grew up with so many siblings. I just loved being in a big environment. I would have gone through the same pain and back for the result of having my babies. It was all worth it.”
