On June 29, at 98 years old, famed comedian Carl Reiner passed away. According to his assistant Judy Nagy, Nagy confirmed to People that Carl passed away in his Beverly Hills home of natural causes.
Shortly after news of his passing was made public, his son, another legendary comedian Rob Reiner, took to Twitter to share a few words following the death of his beloved dad. “Last night my dad passed away. As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light.”
Rob’s 23-year-old daughter, Romy Reiner, whom he shares with his wife of 31 years, Michele Singer Reiner, also shared a few words following her grandfather’s unexpected passing. And sadly, as she revealed on Twitter, she learned about Carl via a TMZ report.
“Very weird to hear about my grandfathers passing from a TMZ report. Needless to say, he was an inspiration, and encouraged me to keep writing. I hope to continue his legacy if at all possible. To be clear, when I woke up, it was the first thing on my phone. I got a lot of messages but the first initial notification I saw was that he had passed.”
And to prove that, one of Carl’s last tweets was about President Donald J. Trump, which Romy retweeted. “As I arose at 7:30 this morning, I was saddened to relive the day that led up to the election of a bankrupted and corrupt businessman who had no qualifications to be the leader of any country in the civilized world,” the late comedian wrote just hours before his passing on June 29.
“Thank you to everyone who has sent such heartfelt messages. I will miss him so much. His art changed so many lives and will continue to do so. He told me to keep writing, so I will. I hope we can vote trump out for you.”
As well as his son Rob and granddaughter Romy, Carl is also survived by another son Lucas and daughter Annie.
