Parenting as part of a blended family can be as rewarding as it is challenging. Supermodel Gisele Bündchen recently opened up in an Instagram story about her blended family with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Bündchen answered some candid questions about parenting their children, 10-year-old Benjamin Rein, 7-year-old Vivian Lake, and stepson 12-year-old John “Jack” Edward Thomas, whom Brady shares custody with his ex, actress Bridge Moynahan.

During the Q&A, a fan asked Bünchen how she feels about being a stepmom. The model began her answer by admitting she doesn’t like the world stepmom.

Gisele Bündchen Would Rather Be Called a ‘Bonus Mom’ Rather Than a ‘Step Mom’

“I don’t like the word ‘stepmom. I like the word ‘bonus mom’ because I feel like it’s a blessing in my life. I feel so lucky that I got to have an extra wonderful little angel in my life.”

Another fan then asked her how she and Brady manage family time given both of their very busy schedules. As Bünchen explained, regardless of how busy they are as professionals, they make family time a priority.

“I think we just try our best to be present with the kids when we are with the kids,” she said. She then noted that she and Brady do their best to be “fully there with them” and “really listening to them.”

“I think it’s not so much [about] the amount of time,” she continued. “I think it’s the quality [of the] time.” Bündchen also noted that she and Brady are focused on creating a “loving and safe” family environment.

“I think what’s really important as well, is the energy that is around the children,” she said. “I think they really see how much we love each other and how much we support each other.”
