While at an event in October, Jon Gosselin told In Touch magazine that the two children who currently live with him “probably” won’t see their mother during the holidays this year.

This latest reveal is just another hump in what has already been a difficult 10 years since Jon and his ex-wife Kate Gosselin divorced. Since their marriage ended, the former couple’s divorce and multiple custody battles have played out quite publicly over the years.

And most recently, Jon went on record saying things between him and Kate aren’t getting any better. “Right now, it’s very volatile,” a reportedly frustrated Jon told In Touch.

“We’re going back to court real soon but it’s just for ancillary things. I always say that like every interview, ‘Oh, we’re going back to court.’ It’s been 11 years. You’d think it would end one day but it doesn’t; it’s just over and over again.”

Jon and Kate are the parents of eight children, 19-year-old twins Mady and Cara, as well as 15-year-old sextuplets, Hannah, Collin, Joel, Alexis, Leah, and Aaden. Jon currently has custody of Hannah and Collin, while the other six live with their mom.

During the season premiere of Kate Plus 8, it almost seemed like things were going well for the separated family. Kate made it seem like she understood why Hannah decided not to be featured on the show this season.

“She’s with her dad and she was not able to come. And that’s sad. It’s the second trip here actually for us that she hasn’t been with us. Hannah, it was sad for us because, Hannah you know, they’re getting older, and they’re making different choices, and they’re doing different things. And she opted to stay back with her dad, actually. Which again, you know, her choice. Whatever. It’s not optimal for Mom. But it’s something that I support. And you know, we just, adjust and move on.”

The mom-of-eight continued:

“Time marches on. And now how quickly it goes like for Mady and Cara who are gonna be graduating. And I know that I’m going to blink and the little kids are gonna be there too. You know, when the kids are little, you envision life a certain way. And as life changes, you know, in terms of our family, it’s not how I pictured it. You just have to adjust to it. It’s gonna come fast than I ever really imagined.”

Nonetheless, Jon says it’s been a constant back and forth between him and Kate. And unfortunately, it’s their children who get stuck in the middle of it.

In an earlier interview with HLN, Jon said he doesn’t have much of a relationship with his other six children. And while Hannah occasionally sees her other siblings, Collin—who was admitted into an institution by Kate back in 2016—also doesn’t have much contact with his mom or his other siblings since Jon removed him from the institution that was supposed to help the teen with his special needs.

Jon has also said in the past that Collin never had special needs, despite what Kate has said in past interviews.

“I see them, but I don’t really have any interaction with the other six. Hannah has more interaction with her siblings, but Collin doesn’t. He’s had one visitation with his other siblings since he’s been back.”

Jon went on to say in his interview with In Touch that it’s supposed to be up to the kids when they want to see their parents. But that hasn’t necessarily been the case. Jon also said that his relationship with Mady and Cara has suffered the most over the last 10 years.

“It’s supposed to be up to them. If Hannah really wants to go, I just drop her off or Kate comes to pick her up or whatever. There’s no … I can’t control that. And that’s the way it should be. […] I text [Mady and Cara on their birthday but it’s kind of like I have hoped that they’ll talk to me again or whatever. Maybe I shouldn’t say anything or post anything anymore. Let them live their lives. I know they’re happy.”

Jon, his longtime girlfriend Colleen, her two children from a previous relationship, and Hannah and Collin, are planning on getting out of Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving this year. He told In Touch that they’ll be heading out of the country to celebrate the holiday.

It’s unclear what Kate and the other children have planned.
