One bride received a wedding gift that was definitely not on her registry.
While celebrating her upcoming nuptials with her family at a bridal shower, the woman received a cringe-worthy gift from her stepmother-in-law.
The bride took to Reddit to vent about the awkward moment her stepmom-in-law gifted her the nightgown she wore on her own wedding night.
In her post, the woman shared “highlights” from the day. She knew things were off to a bad start when her SMIL made the shower a lingerie-themed event.
“She made the party lingerie themed, so I got 15 different nightgowns as presents,” she shared. “I don’t wear/have never worn nightgowns in my life, so I ended up returning all of them for bathing suits (for the wedding).”
The best moment came when she dramatically unveiled her gift.
“She starts ‘announcing’ her present to me in a dramatic (and long) fashion. She goes on and on about how she has something she wants to give me for my wedding and it’s important to her and blablabla. She has a lot of family heirlooms and antiques, so I assumed it would be some hair brooch, or a garter or something.”
“It was a HAND-ME-DOWN NIGHTGOWN. THAT SHE WORE ON HER WEDDING NIGHT. FOR ME TO WEAR ON MY WEDDING NIGHT. She then made a ‘joke’ about fertility and how she got pregnant ‘very soon’ after the wedding. ISN’T THAT WEIRD?!”
The bride went on to say that she “almost died on the spot.” We’re guessing this is one day that she’ll never forget.
And as the top response says: “OMG. The cringe-factor is in the stratosphere.” Can’t argue with that. yikes!
